HFP Racing September News

sunrise_at_SandyHookThe HFP Racing crew started out September in New Jersey at Irongirl Sandy Hook.  What a pleasure to be part of such an awesome event at an incredible venue. Sandy Hook is a national park located on the northernmost tip of New Jersey. The narrow 6 mile peninsula is all national park property and the event is staged at the historic Fort Hancock which has a view of the New York City skyline just a quick 45 minute ferry away.  Race morning dawned to a gorgeous sunrise that only can be replicated at an East Coast ocean venue – truly spectacular. Irongirl_finishWith 1500 ladies racing and over 5000 spectators this event is quite an amazing feat to pull off at this venue.  However, all went well and the HFP Racing crew was heading back to the Buckeye State by Monday morning getting ready for the FIT Family Series season ending event at Portage Lakes State Park. After the 9 hour drive from New Jersey I was back in the car heading to Portage Lakes State Park the next morning to do a final recon visit on the courses. There was some concern over some recent chip-n-seal on a short portion (1/2mi) of the bike course. This checked out OK during my recon ride on Tuesday and should be a non-issue on race day.  We’ll need to sweep a few areas that are holding some loose gravel but the road has packed down nicely over the last week.  FIT Portage LakesI also got a chance to run the new run course that features sections of the Portage Lakes trail system. This is an awesome 5k loop course that allows for a shaded and rolling loop course for all distance (mini, sprint & olympic). The Olympic course will do 2-laps of the 5k course.  There are exposed roots that will need to be avoided and the HFP crew will be spraying each and every one with orange paint to make sure  We already have 700+ registered for this week so don’t miss out and get registered now! Online Registration Closes: September 12, 2013 – 11:59pm EST
